Herb & Garlic Tri-Tip With Compound Butter Recipe

Herb & Garlic Tri-Tip With Compound Butter Recipe

Prep Time: 30 minutes | Cook Time: 10-15 minutes | Servings: 6 | Author: Olivelle (styled by Chivilla Bay)

If you’re looking to bring steakhouse-level flavor straight to your backyard grill, this Herb & Garlic Tri-Tip is the recipe to try. Rich olive oil, savory herbs, and a splash of dark balsamic create a marinade that infuses every bite with bold flavor.

But the real magic happens after the steak comes off the grill. A slice of homemade herb and garlic compound butter melts slowly over the warm tri-tip, creating a silky finish that keeps the meat juicy and incredibly flavorful.

Perfect for weekend grilling, family dinners, or backyard gatherings, this recipe delivers big flavor with surprisingly simple ingredients.

Ingredients

For the Steak

2 lbs tri-tip steak

⅓ cup Garlic & Herb Infused Olive Oil

⅓ cup Dark Balsamic Vinegar of Modena

2 tablespoons Herb & Garlic Dipper and Seasoning

2 teaspoons Black Garlic Infused Sea Salt

4–5 tablespoons compound butter, for serving

For the Compound Butter

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 tablespoon Herb & Garlic Dipper and Seasoning

1 tablespoon Garlic & Herb Infused Olive Oil

Directions

  1. In a large bowl or zip-top bag, combine the tri-tip with Garlic & Herb Infused Olive Oil, Dark Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, Herb & Garlic Dipper, and Black Garlic Infused Sea Salt.

  2. Marinate the steak for at least 1 hour, or up to 12 hours in the refrigerator for deeper flavor.

  3. In a medium bowl, mix together the softened butter, Herb & Garlic Dipper, and Garlic & Herb Infused Olive Oil until well combined.

  4. Place the butter mixture onto plastic wrap, roll into a log shape, and refrigerate for about 1 hour until firm.

  5. Remove the steak from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking so it can come to room temperature.

  6. Preheat your grill to about 400°F.

  7. Place the tri-tip on the grill and cook for about 6–7 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting cook time depending on thickness.

  8. Remove the steak from the grill and place a slice of compound butter over the top.

  9. Let the steak rest for about 10 minutes per inch of thickness before slicing.

Slice against the grain and serve warm.

Tips & Swaps

• Always slice tri-tip against the grain for the most tender bites.

• For deeper flavor, marinate the steak overnight.

• No grill? This recipe works beautifully in a cast iron skillet as well.

• Add roasted potatoes or grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
